About Our ServicesExam DescriptionsMammographyMammography is a specific type of imaging that uses a low-dose X-ray system for examination of the breasts. Most medical experts agree that successful treatment of breast cancer often is linked to early diagnosis. Mammography plays a central part in early detection of breast cancers because it can show changes in the breast up to two years before you might actually feel the lump in your breast. Bone Mineral Density TestA bone density test is a non-invasive and painless method to determine your bone health. It measures your bone minerals (calcium) and bone density to identify osteoporosis, determine your risk for fractures and monitor your response to osteoporosis treatment. The bone density test uses DEXA (dual energy x-ray absorptiometry) which involves minor exposure to radiation (less than that received during a chest x-ray). For this exam you may be asked to remove any clothing with zippers or other metal parts, such as a bra. You will lie comfortably on a padded examination table. The technician will record your height and weight and may ask you some additional questions. Then, you simply lie still while the equipment passes overhead. The entire scan takes less than 10 minutes and is completely pain-free. X-RayRadiology is the study of images of the human body. Although Radiology began with the use of X-rays and large flat sheets of photographic films, the modern Radiologist now has a variety of tools for "taking pictures" of living patients. CT ScanA CT scan is a term used to describe a radiological test known as Computerized Tomography. The CT scanner is a doughnut shaped machine that takes pictures of your body. The scanner is used in combination with a digital computer to create detailed cross sectional images or "slices" of different organs of the body. CT has the ability to image a combination of soft tissue, bone and blood vessels, making it possible to detect diseases earlier than with regular X-ray. Ultrasoundltrasound imaging is a method of obtaining images from inside the human body through the use of high frequency sound waves. Ultrasound produces real-time images of tissues, organs, blood vessels and blood flow. This can help diagnose a variety of medical conditions or assess damage after a heart attack or other illness. Obstetric ultrasound refers to the specialized use of sound waves to visualize the unborn child and associated structures. |
